Seeing Marriage Soberly
this has been a very humiliating experience
but a very good one
I think it refined our love for each other.
Tim Keller says that when you first start dating
you think you’re in love
but you’re not.
you’re just getting your ego stroked every day
but after being together for a long time and understanding each others’ brokenness and sometimes getting hurt by one another
love is deep friendship
when you esteem the other person so highly even though you’ve seen them at their worst
and you know they esteem you very highly even though they’ve seen you at your worst
and i know i will submit to him in anything
because i know he is willing to sacrifice _____________ .
i will do anything for this man now
because i know i won’t be taken for granted
it also taught me that marriage will be hard
and to look at it soberly…so neither too optimistically (like…oh marriage will be fun!) but neither pessimistically (like, oh marriage will be just fighting forever)
